nrcthumbThe neighbourhood mailman with his little cart strolled all the way to the Middle East: today the international edition of my favourite Dutch newspaper started its weekly delivery to my office. Pure beauty wrapped and name tagged in plastic. This edition of the NRC is made specifically for Dutch expatriates to keep them up to date on the most news worthy events of the past week.

Psssst. Are you family, a friend, a colleague, an acquaintance, or just random riffraff strolling onto the holy pastures of this weblog?

In any case, I bid you welcome to the diary of my adventures in Amman, Jordan!

Well, to be fair, not just adventures. I mean, if I was out having adventures all the time, how on earth would I find the time to fill this blog with stories? The quiet times will enable me to write about the adventurous times. Right. So, well, what’s the story here, mr. Hofman?

Thanks for asking. I’ll be in Amman from February to August 2007, doing research at a consultancy firm to gain a M.Sc/Drs. title in Communication Science at the University of Twente, the Netherlands. The research will be all about Corporate Social Responsibility. I’ll be exploring this phenomenon in the Arab markets.

On the site, I’ll keep people dear to me posted on the goings-on of my life in Amman. I haven’t a clue what to expect. I haven’t a clue who I’ll meet. I haven’t a clue what I’ll see and do. But these elements will hopefully all contribute to something the Ancient Greeks so beautifully named εuδαιμονία, eudaimonia. My human flourishing.

I feel like flying. Is it Friday yet?
