British Airways’ cabin crew was planning a 2-day strike on the 30th and 31st of January, followed by another strike on February 5/6/7. However lucky I would have been to fly right in between those two strikes (I’m leaving February 2), it still would have created an incredible hassle with excess luggage processing, not to mention how busy Heathrow would have been.

Thankfully, after 120 (!) hours of negotiations, BA’s board and the Worker Union came to the conclusion the strikes wouldn’t be necessary. Heathrow should be operating normally and all flights will continue according to schedule. I’m knocking on wood. Lucky me!

ps. All credits are due to my Duck of Luck, listed on the right hand side of your screen. Yes, it has a laser attached to its head.

Psssst. Are you family, a friend, a colleague, an acquaintance, or just random riffraff strolling onto the holy pastures of this weblog?

In any case, I bid you welcome to the diary of my adventures in Amman, Jordan!

Well, to be fair, not just adventures. I mean, if I was out having adventures all the time, how on earth would I find the time to fill this blog with stories? The quiet times will enable me to write about the adventurous times. Right. So, well, what’s the story here, mr. Hofman?

Thanks for asking. I’ll be in Amman from February to August 2007, doing research at a consultancy firm to gain a M.Sc/Drs. title in Communication Science at the University of Twente, the Netherlands. The research will be all about Corporate Social Responsibility. I’ll be exploring this phenomenon in the Arab markets.

On the site, I’ll keep people dear to me posted on the goings-on of my life in Amman. I haven’t a clue what to expect. I haven’t a clue who I’ll meet. I haven’t a clue what I’ll see and do. But these elements will hopefully all contribute to something the Ancient Greeks so beautifully named εuδαιμονία, eudaimonia. My human flourishing.

I feel like flying. Is it Friday yet?
